Summer 2011: Volume 59, No. 2

Steve Cousins was at the north jetty to take this photo of the Lady Washington as she crossed the bar into Humboldt Bay this past March 16 at approximately 8:30 a.m. Among the people on board are Marvin Shepherd, the biographer of Captain H.H. Buhne, and ZoAnn Redmond-Kinsey, Buhne’s great-great-granddaughter. The pair had sailed up from San Francisco on stormy seas for two days, reliving Buhne’s voyage on the Laura Virginia from San Francisco to Humboldt Bay 161 years ago, in April 1850.
